sTRATA: layers of illumination
SUN.Lamp
Designed by Sophia Hicks, the feature piece of the Strata collection pays homage to the carefully crafted architecture of the world in order to juxtaposes hasty post industrial construction.
The forms are pulled from architectural motifs, most notably the doors and window from a variety of styles. The use of mulberry papery, for instance, takes inspiration from Japanese Shoji doors and their use of paper instead of glass. The choice to hand join the 83 cherry pieces of the lamp highlights a value in craft and intentionality taken from the arts and crafts movement.
Bringing that intention back into the home is the cornerstone of this project. This is done physically through the use of doors as dimmers, and metaphorically by way of the design and its influences.

Designed to give the impression of the afternoon sun by painting the ground with floral shadows
Using the ambient light in a room. This design takes inspiration from Motawi tiles and other arts and crafts era motifs but makes use of light instead of clay to display them.
